What is One Small Deed?

One Small Deed was created because we could no longer stand by while so many people were living rough on the streets around us. We wanted to make a difference and provide some small help to those who don’t have a roof over their heads.

As such, we consulted with local homeless charities and created a homeless pack, consisting of toiletries, food and clothing. Anybody can sign-up to receive a pack, and the aim is for everyone in our community to have a pack in their car at all times. Through this, whenever a homeless person is passed on the street, there will be somebody on hand to help.

The project is simple and requires minimum effort - simply place the pack in your car and be on the lookout to help others whenever you go for a drive. By doing this one small deed, you are changing your life and the world around you. Use this one act as inspiration: start here with one small deed, and you’ll see how easy it is to become a giver.

Rabbi Sacks Zt’’l said it best: "We do not have to redeem the world all together in one go. We do it one day at a time, one person at a time, one act at a time. A single life, said the Sages, is like a universe. Save a life and you save a world. Change a life and you begin to change the world".

How the project works

GIFT have sourced and created the homeless packs, all you need to do is sign-up to the project using the google form below, and then pick up your pack from the GIFT warehouse. An information sheet will accompany the pack, detailing some helpful advice about how to give it out and how you can get involved with other homeless initiatives.

You are free (and encouraged!) to add more things to the pack!

Finally…

There is a charity called Streetlink. If you are concerned about anyone sleeping rough, you can report this to StreetLink who have outreach teams who will go and see the person(s) in question and try and connect them to local services to assist them. Their telephone number is 0300 500 0914.
